AMY ARIEL
|
ABOUTAmy Ariel is a fifth year student at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she is studying Electrical Engineering and Theatrical Lighting Design. She started out on the STEM path after watching Mythbusters, circled around to the performing arts after watching behind-the-scenes on The Lord of The Rings movie trilogy, and now has finally returned back to her STEM/STEAM roots with a focus on luminaire product development. While much of her lighting background is primarily based in the performing arts (freelancing around the Richmond, Virginia professional scene), Amy hopes to expand into the industrial side of production, focusing more on controls engineering, product research and development, and system design.
Amy's journey back to STEM would not be complete without mentioning her Product Management Internship with Production Resource Group in Secaucus, NJ, where she spent the summer conducting product testing for the Company's proprietary Luminaires, liaising with the Company engineers to conduct alpha testing for network system management software, designing and/or drawing appropriate lighting network systems for various events (including the 2019 VMAs, 2019 World Pride Opening Ceremony, and the 2019 NBA Draft), as well as other miscellaneous tasks to support PRG Innovation's vast infrastructure. More recently, she has been working with ProductiveAV as a shop worker, liaising between Engineering and Integration/Installation teams to build custom racks for large-scale AV systems. |
Besides spending excessive amounts of time in dark theaters or huddled over a computer, Amy also enjoys getting outside and taking pictures. She enjoys exploring new places and, quite frankly, has a talent for getting lost and has been known to discover random parks while trying to avoid toll roads. Some of her photos, less the hundreds of cat pictures on her phone, can be found here and on Instagram.
Other times, when she's not in a theater, hasn't locked herself in the engineering building, or performing routine daily activities (sans sleeping and eating - who has time for those anyway?), Amy enjoys writing terrible puns (don't say I didn't warn you). She also puts her video production hobby to use with The ALD Vlogs, her production vlog series, inspired in part by Peter Jackson's production blogs on The Hobbit movie, which inspired her to get into theatre.
